The Springfield Technical Community College Technology
Park is a 15.3-acre site which provides attractive lease
space for technology-based and light manufacturing
companies. Businesses have been attracted to the Tech
Park through its physical resources and location, the
unique historic setting on grounds of the former
Springfield Armory, the proximity to the faculty and
highly-skilled graduates of Springfield Technical
Community College, and the commitment of the college to
economic development. In 2001, STCC was selected by the
U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development
Administration as the sole national winner of the Award for
Excellence in Urban Economic Development. In 2002,
the International Economic Development Council
recognized the Technology Park with its Economic
Development Award for a Revitalization Program.
The Technology Park is "on network" and is
home to many telecommunications companies. The facility
layout is flexible, and facility management is
knowledgeable regarding telecom industry needs and
expectations. The STCC Technology Park is the premier
complex in Western Massachusetts for companies seeking a
"totally smart" environment in which to locate
their operations.
The historic buildings are attractively renovated.
Additionally, tenant companies have invested in excess
of $300 million in equipment and technology, including
fiber, telecommunications networks, and switching
equipment in the park.
The site was purchased in 1996 with funding from the
commonwealth of Massachusetts, which established the STCC
Assistance Corporation to own and operate the Park.
An
economic impact report on the contributions of the STCC
Technology Park to the economy of the region was
prepared by the Center for Economic Development at the
University of Massachusetts in consultation with Mullin
Associates Incorporated, and was released in March
2003.
